The Halifax Beekeepers tent is always a major attraction.

Our annual Honey Show is also held at the same time.  It is open to HBKA members only.

The Honey Show schedule is available here. If you have a look through the schedule you will see that there are a large variety of classes . The ‘Novice’ honey class and the ‘most flavoursome honey’ classes are an ideal start for beginners. Don’t hang back and have a go!

  • Location: The ‘Bee Tent’ will be in the same location as last year. The site is shown on the map. Vehicle access to the site is only possible up to 8.30 and parking by the tent will be limited. Please drop off items for sale etc and park in the public car parking area.
  • Tickets and car passes. We have a supply of free entry tickets and car passes which will be posted out to all members volunteering to help on the day
  • Volunteers: We need lots of help running sales, demonstrating and talking to the public about beekeeping. We will be setting up from around 8.15 am and are usually packing up by 4.30 pm. Offers to help either all day or for morning/ afternoon will be gratefully received. Please let us know that you will be coming to help by following the link on the website before Wednesday 31st July
  • Sales: Members wishing to sell honey, wax products etc. should present their goods by 9 am. Honey related baking is always in short supply and sells well. Please present any baking ready wrapped and priced. Vendors of honey, baking etc should make Rowena Bairstow/Phil Gee aware of quantities and price on arrival.
The Association has recommended a price of £8 for a 1lb jar of honey, £6 for 12oz and £4 for a half pound jar for 2023. Cut comb will be £8 per portion.

  • Labelling requirements: All honey presented for sale must be labelled in a manner consistent with the current regulations. These are straightforward and are available on the Thornes website https://www.thorne.co.uk/how-to (look under ‘can I sell honey? In FAQs’)
  • The regulations relating to some products produced from beeswax are significantly more onerous and the seller must ensure that they comply with the up-to-date rules. Rules that relate to both cosmetics and wraps are available on the BBKA website https://www.bbka.org.uk/lip-balm-and-wax-wraps-information
  • Baking should be presented in closed, see-through bags and cannot be cut or subdivided once at the show
  • Honey show: The schedule for this year and arrangements for entering are available here. Please do have a go at entering one or more of the many classes available
  • Cups and Trophies. Please return your 2023 cups to Peter Nicholls on or before the Show date.
  • Honey tasting/judging for the public : This has proved very popular in the past and certainly boosts honey sales. We need about 6 members to provide a labelled jar which needs to only contain about half a pound. Please give to Chris Dale on the day.
  • Association polo shirts. Blue polos embroidered with our logo are available. Phil Gee does have some stock. Please visit Phil to see if you can get a polo shirt from his stock. If your size is not available then please contact Roger rogerwpool@btinternet.com so we can order one for you. We would need to place an order no later than 31st July.Volunteers not sporting the ‘corporate look’ will still be most welcome!

Please have a look at the Honey Show schedule and think of which classes you might enter for.
